Heard a climber say 'tie your knot like you mean it' and it stuck with me

I was at a local tree care workshop last month and an old-timer said that while showing a hitch knot. He meant take the extra 10 seconds to dress and set it right before you leave the ground. Has anyone else noticed more guys rushing through knot tying these days?

Buddy of mine rushed through a figure eight before a climb last year, didn't dress it tight. Three pitches up he looked down and the tail had worked its way halfway through the knot. He stopped, tied it again properly, said it scared the crap out of him.

Man that gave me the chills just reading it lol. Glad your buddy caught it before it got worse. Stuff like that is a hard reminder that those couple extra seconds to dress a knot right can save your life or at least a really bad day. Its wild how something so simple can loosen up over distance like that.
