Pruned a neglected maple last spring, the difference now is wild

I took on a silver maple that hadn't been touched in maybe 15 years, all those crossing branches and deadwood. 8 months later the canopy opened up so much the grass actually grew underneath for the first time. Has anyone else seen a tree bounce back that fast after a big clean up?

I read something about how silver maples are basically weeds that want to grow, so they bounce back faster than most trees after a big prune. Sounds like yours is living proof.

Basically weeds that want to grow" nails it @blair597, silver maples are ridiculous like that. I did a similar cleanup on one and the new growth was pushing 4 feet a year after. Just keep an eye on those epicormic shoots that pop up from the trunk, they can get out of hand quick.
