So I just counted all the climbing ropes in my truck
Turns out I have seven, which is a bit much for a one-man crew. This happened after I spent ten minutes digging for my main line and kept pulling out old ones I forgot about. I think I've got one from my first job in Eugene, another from a big storm cleanup last fall, and a few mystery ropes. Anyone else end up with a rope collection that got out of hand?

That bit about pulling out old ones you forgot about is so real. I read a post a while back where a guy said his truck bed was like a rope graveyard, each one with a story. He had a bright pink one he only used for a week on some city job, and a totally frayed one he kept as a "lesson" after a close call. They just pile up.

Oh man, that rope graveyard idea is so good. @emmawood, did that guy say what the "close call" was with the frayed one? Like, did it almost snap while he was tying something down, or was it a weird work accident? Those stories are the best part.

Did that pink rope last a whole week? I got one that's bright orange that didn't even make it a full day before someone at the job site called it "hunter safety orange" and I threw it in the corner out of spite. It's still there, three years later, next to a half-burned one from when I tried to use it as a tow strap and the friction melted the whole section near the hitch. Every time I clean out the bed I find some new disaster rope that reminds me of a bad decision I made on a Saturday afternoon.
