Spurless climbing on removals, went back to spikes after 2 weeks and my calves hated me
I do mostly removals on a 60 foot white oak last month and the homeowner had nice grass so I figured I would try spurless. Spent 2 weeks going up on a friction hitch and a lanyard and it was slow, like 15 extra minutes per tree slow. Went back to my spikes last Tuesday for a dead ash and my calves cramped up on the way down. My foreman said he has not seen anyone switch back and stay happy. Now I am wondering if I should just commit to spurless for the long haul or keep the spikes for removals. Anyone here switch full time and actually get their speed back?
