The crotch cut that saved my bucket truck from a 40 foot widowmaker

After 3 near misses on big branch failures this spring, I started dropping the weight in stages with a small notch at the union before the final cut, and the bark seams look way cleaner, has anyone else tried this on mature oaks?

Did your rig shake at all on those final cuts? My buddy tried something similar on a gnarly red oak and the whole trunk twisted so hard it snapped his leveling jack, he said the bark looked like a zipper opening up, clean as can be but the torque was the real problem.
