The giant oak in St. Augustine that made me drop my climb spikes

After 12 years of spurring everything, I watched a local guy rope-walk a 200 year old live oak with zero spikes and the owner tipped him double, so now I ask before I even pull them out of the truck, has anyone else switched to spike-free on residentials?
