The retired climber in Bend who shook his head at my hinge cut
I was doing a removal on a big ponderosa in Bend two months ago when a retired climber watching from the sidewalk asked why I was cutting my hinge so narrow. He pulled a folded photo from his wallet of a stump he left in 1989 and it was almost 4 inches deep, way past anything I was taught. How many of you actually go that deep on purpose, or was that just how they did it back then?
