TIL a single bad storm can wreck a whole week's worth of work
Last Tuesday we got hit with 60 mph gusts out of nowhere here in Portland. I had three big removals lined up and had to cancel all of them because of safety concerns. Spent the whole week just chasing down storm damage calls instead of sticking to my schedule. Anyone else have a storm totally throw off your routine like that?

Started keeping a dedicated "storm kit" in the truck with extra ropes, tarps, and a chainsaw sharpener so I'm not scrambling. Made a simple phone list of regular clients who are cool with last-minute schedule changes, which helps a lot when the weather goes sideways. Did you find any shortcuts that made those damage calls go smoother?

Wait, you actually spent a whole week just on storm damage calls? I get that safety comes first and all, but a lot of that cleanup is just smaller branch work or limb breaks that don't take a full day. I've found that if you're upfront with clients about the backlog, they're usually fine with a shorter session just to make things safe until you can circle back. Blocking off a whole week for that stuff seems like giving away your schedule instead of managing it, if you ask me. Plus, that storm kit idea is solid but it won't save you from the real problem which is saying yes to every little cleanup job that pops up.
