Why does nobody warn you about chain brake dust on a week long dead oak removal in Fresno
Five straight days of dropping dead oaks on a Fresno golf course and I blew through 3 bottles of bar oil and a whole roll of shop towels because nobody told me the chain brake on my 462 would cake up with black paste every single tank and start slipping by day 3, so what are you all running to keep that junk from building up?
You ever crack open a brake cover after a dusty job and find that black goo has basically turned into peanut butter? Had that happen on a big eucalyptus takedown near Clovis last spring, except mine mixed with sap and got so bad the brake would not fully release until I scraped it out with a flathead. I ended up pulling the cover every other tank just to wipe the drum and the little spring area down with a dry rag, which sounds like a pain but beat fighting a slipping chain. Dry rags worked way better than the wet shop towels for me since those just smeared it around.
