Counted my catalog cards from 9 seasons at a site in Arizona and hit 3,000, which is way more than I thought
I was cleaning out my storage bins last weekend and decided to finally count all the field catalog cards I have kept from digging near Tucson since 2015. The number came out to 3,000 exactly, and it caught me off guard because I figured I had maybe half that many after all the baggies and tags got misplaced over the seasons. Does anyone else keep their old paper cards, or has everyone switched to digital records by now?
I've got a shoebox from a 2016 survey in the Mojave that's held together with duct tape and regret. Half the cards got rained on when a tarp blew off, so the pencil smeared and now I can't read the depths on a bunch of them. Learned my lesson and started scanning everything into my phone that same year, though the paper copies still live in the closet. 3,000 in 9 seasons is a solid pile, that's a lot of baggies to keep track of.
