I finally cataloged my 300th ancient pottery shard this weekend
I've been sorting through a box of donated artifacts from a local dig site near Santa Fe. It took me about 8 months of weekends to document them all with photos and measurements. Hitting 300 felt like a big deal because I never thought I'd get through that many broken pieces. Have any of you ever done a collection count that surprised you?

So which parts of those broken pieces are worth studying?

Eight months of counting broken pottery and you call that "fun"?

Whoa hold on, wait. I gotta say I'm on the other side of this one. Counting broken pottery pieces for 8 months just seems like a massive waste of time to me. Those are just random rocks with some faded paint on them, not like they're valuable or anything. I'd rather spend my weekends actually doing something fun instead of photographing old trash from a hole in the ground.
