PSA: That $200 ground penetrating radar rental was a total scam
Rented one to find an old well on my property in Vermont. Thing beeped at every tree root and damp spot. Dug 12 holes for nothing. Anyone else get burned by those rental units?

Dowsing rods ended up working way better for me when I was looking for an old septic tank. Took about 20 minutes to find it and dug one hole that hit right where the rods crossed. Ground penetrating radar is too sensitive for rocky New England dirt.

A friend of mine used one of those on his farm in upstate New York and said the same thing. Kept getting false positives from rocks and old pipe fragments. He ended up just calling a utility locating service instead.
