That 3,000 year old bread in York proved me wrong about food preservation
I used to roll my eyes at those articles about ancient food being found intact, figured it was all hype. Then I saw the actual loaf from the Coppergate dig in York, still recognizable after all that time in waterlogged clay. The oxygen-free conditions basically pickled it, which I had no idea about. Has anyone else had a find that made them rethink how much we actually know?

yeah, digging up a Roman nail that still had wood stuck to it made me realize decay is more about conditions than pure time.
