Used to just snap photos of dig sites with my phone, now I bring a proper DSLR with a macro lens after messing up documentation on a Roman coin find near Bath last spring
Switched after the curator couldn't identify the corrosion patterns on that coin from my blurry phone pics, has anyone else had to redo fieldwork photos because their old method wasn't cutting it?

Brought a tape measure finally after my phone pictures made a 2000 year old pot look like a teacup.

Nah man I bet it's still one of those things where the camera just makes it look bigger than it is. Those tape measure shots can be tricky too depending on how you hold it. I've seen people freak out over a "massive" artifact online and then it turns out to be like the size of a coffee mug. Honestly unless I'm standing next to it myself I take all those size claims with a grain of salt.
