Visiting the Cahokia Mounds, I noticed the main mound is exactly aligned with the winter solstice sunrise.

Some experts think this was intentional for ceremonies, while others argue it's just a coincidence of the layout. What's your take on purposeful alignment versus happenstance in ancient sites?

Honestly that bit about coincidence versus ceremonies reminds me of my friend at Stonehenge. He was super skeptical about the whole solstice alignment thing, said it was probably random. Then he went for the summer solstice sunrise. Told me watching that light hit exactly the right stone, with all those people around him dead silent, he completely changed his mind. Said it felt too precise, too powerful to be an accident. Some things just feel built on purpose.
