Warning: Found a 400 year old coin in my grandma's garden in Virginia and now I dig everything
I was pulling weeds in my grandma's backyard in Richmond last month and hit something metal about 6 inches down, turned out to be a copper coin from the 1600s. I almost tossed it in the yard waste bucket thinking it was a bottle cap, but the edge looked too perfect so I ran it under the hose. Now I want to know, how do you tell if a random metal find is actually old or just junk without ruining it?
