Found out my oven runs 25 degrees hot from a simple test
I got tired of burnt cookies and grabbed a $6 oven thermometer at the grocery store last weekend. Turns out my oven hits 375 when I set it to 350, so everything was cooking faster than recipes said. I checked it three times with different racks to be sure. Now I just set the temp 25 lower and my baked goods come out perfect every time. Has anyone else checked their oven temp with a cheap thermometer?

My mom actually told me about this years ago and I never believed her until I tried it myself. She said most ovens lie to you by at least 20 degrees and she was totally right. I saw a YouTube video that tested like 10 different ovens and only one was exactly right, the rest were all over the place. It's honestly kind of scary how many recipes we mess up just because our ovens are lying to us. Now I always keep that little thermometer in there just to be safe.

Girl SAME. I have the same thermometer from the grocery store and my oven is off by almost 30 degrees. It's crazy how much of a difference it makes once you know.

I read somewhere that most ovens are off by at least 10-15 degrees from what they say. Kinda wild that we all just trust them for years and never know.
