Heard a guy at the hardware store say to mark the breaker before you trip it, and it saved me a trip up the stairs

Last Tuesday I was swapping a bathroom fan in my house near Dayton and the guy in the electrical aisle told me to tape a note on the panel door before I started flipping switches. I did it, and when the hall lights went out I knew right away which breaker to reset. Does anyone else keep a little chart on the panel, or do you just yell for someone to check?
