Lost sleep from upstairs TV, should I say something?

I live in an apartment and the person above me blasts their TV most nights past midnight. On one side, I need good rest for my early shifts at the restaurant. On the other side, I worry about making things tense with a neighbor. For example, last Friday the noise kept me awake until 2 AM. I thought about knocking on their door, but that feels too direct. Maybe a friendly note is better, or should I just let it go? What do you all think is the right move here?

Actually, a friendly note might backfire since it can feel impersonal. Talking to them in person is clearer and shows you're not hiding. Pick a calm time during the day to mention the late night volume. Most people are reasonable if you approach them with respect.

But is it worth making a thing over if it only happened that one Friday? People sometimes have late movie nights. Maybe they just forgot the volume. Apartments mean hearing neighbors sometimes, it's part of living close. If it becomes a regular problem then maybe say something, but a single bad night might not be a big deal. You could just wait and see if it happens again.
