My mail sort routine took a weird turn after that remodel

I used to just toss everything on the kitchen counter and deal with it later, but after the laundry room remodel last March I started sorting bills from junk before I even open the door. Now I keep a basket by the entryway and file stuff every other day, which sounds crazy but it cut my late fee problem in half. The only downside is my neighbor Pete thinks I'm being preachy when he drops his mail on my porch. Has anyone else gone full sorting nerd and regretted it, or found a middle ground that works?
