My view on staying late at work just flipped
I used to think putting in extra hours made me look dedicated. But after burning out and seeing my work suffer, I had to rethink things. My boss actually praised me for setting clear boundaries and getting more done in less time. Now I leave on time every day and feel way better. Who knew working smarter could beat working longer?

Totally get what you mean about "working smarter could beat working longer"! I was the same way for years, always the last one out the door trying to prove something. It took my own burnout to realize that the long hours were just making me slow and tired. Now I focus hard during the day and shut it off at a normal time, and honestly my work has never been better. It's a game changer for sure.

Same here @butler.kevin, setting hard stops changed everything for me too.

Shutting it off at a normal time is such a big deal. I used to answer emails until midnight thinking it made me dedicated, but all it did was mess up my sleep. Now I stop at 6 PM no matter what, and I actually get more done the next day because I'm not exhausted. My boss even noticed I'm more focused in meetings now, which never happened when I was burned out.
