Paid the plumber $340 for a clog I could've snaked myself, or was the peace of mind worth it?
Last month my kitchen sink backed up on a Sunday night with 4 people coming over for my kid's birthday the next day. I had two choices: rent a 25 foot snake from the hardware store down the street for $40 and risk making a mess under the cabinet, or call the emergency plumber. I called the plumber and he was done in 40 minutes, but the bill came to $340 and he used the same snake I could've rented. My wife says paying for someone who knows what he's doing is always worth it, and I get that because I feel the same way when people ask me about their brakes. But $300 extra for a job that took him less time than my coffee run still stings. So which side are you on, do you pay up to skip the stress or do you try it yourself first?
