PSA: I stopped buying name brand trash bags and regret waiting so long
I always bought Glad or Hefty because I figured cheap bags would rip and leak. Two months ago I grabbed a 50 pack of store brand bags at Walmart for $4.50 just to try it. They haven't torn once, they fit my kitchen can fine, and I'm saving about $15 a month. Has anyone else switched and found a brand that holds up just as good?

Yeah I saw something similar on a news site recently, they said the store brands actually passed the stress tests better than Glad in some cases. Makes you wonder what you're really paying for with the name brands, just marketing probably. I've been slowly switching to store brands on a lot of stuff and haven't had any problems yet.

Did you see that Consumer Reports tested this? They found the store brand bags from Walmart and Target actually had fewer failures than Glad in some tests. We switched to the Costco Kirkland ones a few years back and they're cheaper per bag than most. The only thing I noticed is the cheap ones from dollar stores are definitely thinner and more risky for heavy trash. But the basic grocery store brand seems fine for everyday kitchen stuff.

Great, now I'm over here side-eyeing my pantry full of Glad bags like they owe me money 😂 @joel_butler I saw that same Consumer Reports thing after I switched, and it made me feel kind of dumb for paying extra for years. My only caution is don't get too cocky with the cheap bags, I tried the dollar store ones once and learned my lesson the hard way when the bottom fell out on trash day. Store brand from a regular grocery store though, totally fine for normal kitchen stuff.
