PSA: My rainwater barrel idea flooded the backyard

I wanted to save water for my plants, so I got some big barrels. But I didn't put a good drain in, and after last night's rain, my whole yard is soaked. The kids are having a blast splashing around, but I need to fix this before it ruins the grass. Any neighbors know a good way to set up rain barrels without causing a mess?

Yeah I learned the hard way you need an overflow hose lol. Run it from a hole near the top of the barrel out to a drain or your garden. That way when it's full, the extra water has somewhere to go besides your lawn.
