That $150 meal kit subscription I signed up for last month was a total dud
I figured I'd try Hello Fresh for a change of pace after hearing good things, but almost every recipe took way longer than they claimed and needed extra salt or spices I had to buy separate. After three boxes I realized I spent about $180 total on stuff that was more stressful than just planning my own meals. Anyone else find these meal kits more trouble than they're worth?

Same thing happened to me with Blue Apron a couple years back. I tried three boxes too and every single one had me hunting for salt and pepper like the recipe assumed my pantry was a professional kitchen. The times were always off by like 20-30 minutes and half the veggies came bruised or wilted by day two. I ended up spending $195 total and still had to go to the grocery store for basics. Honestly, after that I just went back to planning my own meals on Sunday afternoons, takes an hour tops and I save at least $40 a week. Those kits feel like they solve a problem that only exists if you refuse to make a grocery list.

$195 for three boxes? That's wild, I didn't realize they added up that fast.

Oh dude, same exact thing with HelloFresh. My first box the "quick" meal took me an hour and a half because the instructions said to "dice the sweet potato into 1/2 inch cubes" but didn't mention you have to peel the dang thing first. And the portions were a joke - I got a single zucchini for a meal that was supposed to feed two people. By the time I added my own spices, extra veggies, and a side salad from the store I might as well have just cooked from scratch.
