The $40 garage sale level changed how I hang shelves

I always used a bubble level and thought laser levels were for contractors. Then I picked up a cheap self-leveling one at a garage sale in Wichita for $40 and tried it on a bookcase in my hallway. The line it threw on the wall made me realize my old shelves were crooked by almost half an inch. Has anyone else found their old measuring habits were way off once they got one of these?
