The $9 drain snake I almost returned saved me $180 in plumber fees
Last October my kitchen sink started backing up and I was ready to call a plumber until my neighbor Dale said to try a cheap hand snake first. I grabbed a 25 foot one from the hardware store for about $9 and figured it was junk, but it pulled out a wad of hair and grease that looked like a small animal. I almost returned it that same day because I thought it did nothing, then the sink drained fine for 8 months straight. Fast forward to last month, same clog, and the snake worked again in about 15 minutes. The plumber quote I got the first time was $180 just to show up. Has anyone else had one of those cheap tools actually hold up, or did I just get lucky with this one?
