The day my bread machine quit mid-loaf at 6am
Last Tuesday I was making my usual Sunday batch early for the county fair bake sale, and the machine just stopped with the dough half-kneaded, no warning lights or anything. I pulled out the manual and found the drive belt had snapped, so I rigged it with a rubber band from the asparagus bunch and hand-kneaded the rest on the counter, which took about 20 minutes. Has anyone else had to improvise with a broken appliance and still gotten a decent result, or should I just bite the bullet and replace the belt?

Hold up, you used a RUBBER BAND from asparagus to fix a bread machine? That’s honestly some next-level McGyver stuff right there. I’m just impressed it held together long enough to finish the loaf, even if you had to hand-knead the rest. Sounds like you saved the bake sale, so I’d say replace the belt before you trust that thing again.
