The drywall guy said 90 minute mud, I used 45 and went back 3 times

My neighbor who does drywall for a living told me to use the 90 minute setting mud on my basement patch job in Toledo. I figured 45 minute would be fine since I was in a hurry. Turns out the 45 minute stuff started setting while I was still smearing it on, so I got lumps everywhere. Had to sand everything down and redo it twice after that. Anyone else ever got humbled by a quick-set compound choice?
