The library lady who showed me my reading was all wrong

So there I was at the downtown branch last Tuesday, browsing the mystery section like always. This older woman just walks up and goes, "You keep picking books from the same 3 shelves. You are missing half the library." She grabbed me and walked me over to the foreign lit section, handed me a Swedish crime novel. Turned out I had been stuck in a reading rut for like 2 years without even noticing. Has anyone else had a stranger completely shake up their habits like that?

Hard same, honestly. That librarian was a real one for calling you out like that. I had a barista do something similar to me with coffee once, straight up told me I had been ordering the same boring latte for three years and walked me through trying a cortado. It totally changed my mornings, and now I actually look forward to trying new drinks instead of just going through the motions. Kind of makes you wonder what other little ruts we are stuck in without realizing it. Your mileage may vary, but sometimes a stranger just sees something you have been blind to.

Sat here nodding along like I haven't been drinking the same iced mocha for like four years straight lmao. A barista called me out last week and I just blinked at her like a deer in headlights.

Three Swedish crime novels later and I'm starting to think that librarian just wanted someone to talk about her favorite books with. I mean yeah maybe you were in a rut, but if you were happy browsing those three shelves for two years, that's not a rut, that's just having a comfort zone.
