Tried that vinegar and baking soda drain trick and made things worse
My kitchen sink was draining slow so I looked up how to fix it. Poured a cup of baking soda down followed by vinegar and let it sit for 15 minutes. The whole thing fizzed up and then just stopped draining completely. Ended up having to call a plumber who charged me $180 to snake out a clog that got pushed deeper. Learned the hard way that combo is more for maintenance not actual clogs. Anybody else have a home fix that backfired?

Honestly, that vinegar and baking soda thing is such a trap. It's more like a science experiment than an actual fix. Ngl, I did the same thing with my bathroom sink and ended up with a fizzy mess that did nothing. Tbh, if you have a real clog, that stuff just makes it worse by pushing gunk deeper down the pipe. Learned that one the hard way too and now I just use a cheap plastic snake from the hardware store for anything serious. You're not alone on that one, for sure.

Did I create a science experiment in my sink too? Yeah, I went full mad scientist on a slow tub drain once. Half a box of baking soda, whole bottle of vinegar, felt real clever watching it bubble up. Then the water just sat there looking at me. My bathroom smelled like a salad for a week and the drain still ran slow. My plumber called it a "homeowner special" when he pulled out the gunk. Real proud moment.

My theory is that combo actually creates a gas that can warp rubber gaskets in older pipes, which is why things get worse instead of better.
