Tried using an egg slicer on a soft avocado and got a mushy mess everywhere
I grabbed my $10 egg slicer from Target thinking it would give me perfect avocado slices for tacos, but instead it just squished the whole thing into a green paste and popped half of it onto the floor. Has anyone found a tool that actually works for soft avocados without turning them into guacamole?

The egg slicer giveth and the egg slicer taketh away. I just use a butter knife and a gentle hand, works every time.

Butter knives just mash it further if the avocado is actually ripe enough to eat. A serrated knife with a gentle sawing motion is the only thing that gets clean slices out of a soft avocado.

Huh, I actually heard somewhere that professional chefs use a serrated knife for avocado for exactly that reason. Makes sense since you're trying to cut something soft without smashing it.
