When my car battery died at the farmer's market, I blamed everyone but myself
Last Saturday in Portland, I parked near the stalls, bought 40 bucks of berries, and came back to a dead car. My first thought was the alternator, then the starter, then I even muttered about the battery being cursed. Turns out I left the dome light on, and it drained the battery overnight. A nice guy with jumper cables helped me in 10 minutes, but I spent a full hour stressing and calling my mechanic for nothing. My question is, why do we always look for the complicated fix before checking the simple thing? Has anyone else had a moment where the obvious answer was right in front of you and you still went down the rabbit hole?

Is it because admitting we messed up feels worse than dealing with a broken part? Like blaming the alternator is somehow less embarrassing than saying you left a light on. I've done the same thing with a dead phone battery, spent an hour resetting it before realizing I never plugged it in. Why is our first move always to point fingers at the machine instead of our own habits? Honestly, that hour of panic probably cost you more than the berries.
