How is it possible that replacing a single bathroom faucet took me 7 hours?
I spent 4 of those hours fighting a 20-year-old shutoff valve that wouldn't budge and then had to make 3 trips to the hardware store for adapters, has anyone else dealt with plumbing turning a 30 minute job into a whole day project?

That is such a classic example of the "80/20 rule" in home repairs. You spend 20% of the time doing the actual job and 80% of the time just fighting the stuff that should be simple. It's like when you try to unclog a drain and it turns into dismantling half the pipe under the sink because you can't get the cleanout plug off. Feels like everything in a house is designed by someone who never had to fix it themselves.

Amy says "designed by someone who never had to fix it" but that's not really true. Builders actually plan for easy repair access all the time. I just changed a faucet last weekend and the whole thing took 20 minutes because the shutoff valves were right there and the nuts had plenty of room. Maybe the problem is people buying cheap fixtures from big box stores instead of quality stuff that actually fits together right.
