Rant: a stat on a cereal box said the average person spends 38 days on hold in a lifetime and I can't stop thinking about it

I was sitting at my kitchen table in Boise eating a bowl of corn flakes and the side panel had a trivia fact about phone hold time. Maybe it's made up, but I've been on hold with my power company for 20 minutes twice this week, so it sure feels true. Who came up with that number, and how do I get those days back? Somebody on here has to know if this figure is real or just a company trying to sound clever. If you've seen a junk stat like this, where did you find it, and what's the worst hold time you've ever sat through?
