That moment I realized I was killing my cast iron skillet for years
Ngl, I spent like 6 years scrubbing my cast iron with soap and steel wool every time I used it, wondering why it always stuck. Then my buddy saw me doing it at a cookout last month and nearly had a heart attack telling me I was stripping all the seasoning off. Anyone else learn the hard way that you're just supposed to wipe it out with oil and a paper towel?

Doesn't the soap thing depend on what kind of soap you're using?

People act like bar soap is some life changing discovery. It's just soap. Lather, rinse, move on with your day.

Exactly. @the_brian might just be grabbing whatever bar is on sale, but not all soap is the same. I used to think the same way until I tried a really drying bar that left my skin feeling tight and itchy. Then I switched to a cheap store brand with glycerin and it was way gentler. The big difference is whether it's real soap made with fats and lye or a synthetic detergent bar like Dove. Moisturizers in bar soap can make or break the experience, especially if you have sensitive skin. How picky are you about ingredients in your soap bars?
