That time I tried to fix a toilet at 2am in Phoenix

Last month my toilet started running at 1am in my apartment near downtown Phoenix. I figured I'd save a call to the landlord and just replace the flapper myself. Three hours later I had water everywhere and realized I'd bought the wrong size from the 24 hour hardware store on McDowell Road. Has anyone else ever made a simple home repair way worse in the middle of the night?

Bro, you bought a toilet flapper from a 24 hour hardware store on McDowell at 2am and didn't even check your old one first? That's wild. What exactly made you think a random flapper would fit without at least looking at the model number or taking the old one with you? Also, did you turn the water off at the shutoff valve or just try to work on it while it was still running? Because that's the difference between a small mistake and a full-on flood.

I mean, unless he left the water on full blast - is it really that dramatic?
