The old guy at the hardware store changed how I fix things

Last month I went to Ace Hardware in Tulsa to grab a new shower head. An older employee named Bill stopped me on my way out and asked what I was working on. He showed me how to wrap plumber's tape clockwise instead of just winging it. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them advice that actually worked way better than what you were doing?

Oh man, I gotta be honest I don't really get the fuss. It's plumber's tape. You turn it one way or the other and it either works or leaks. Not exactly a life changing secret. I mean sure it's nice that Bill helped you out but calling it a "life lesson" feels like a stretch. Idk maybe I'm just not the type to get hyped over hardware store tips.

Man, I actually used to think the same way! I figured tape was tape and direction didn't matter until a buddy showed me the counter-clockwise trick after my third leaky shower arm. It sounds silly but sometimes the small simple things really do change how you look at a whole project.

Four bucks for plumber's tape and this guy turned it into a life lesson. I mean, it's tape, not a master class in engineering. Glad it worked out for you though.
