Thought going solo on fixes was fine until a pipe leak changed my mind.

I mean, not asking for advice first can turn a small issue into a big mess.

Totally agree about the hidden water damage. My buddy Rick tried to replace his own kitchen sink drain. He cranked the plastic fitting way too tight, hairline crack. A slow drip ran down inside the cabinet wall for a month. He only found out when the baseboard in the dining room swelled up. They had to open the wall, dry everything out, and replace a bunch of moldy studs. What was a twenty dollar part became a huge insurance claim.

That's the real kicker with plumbing. A tiny mistake in a solder joint or over-tightening a fitting can lead to hidden water damage inside a wall. Next thing you know, you're dealing with mold and a repair bill ten times bigger than a pro's initial fix would have cost.

Did Tara's friend Rick get his insurance to cover it all?
