Why does nobody talk about how a barista's comment about my pour over technique changed my whole morning routine?
A barista at a shop in Portland told me I was grinding too fine for light roast beans and now I actually taste the fruit notes instead of just drinking hot coffee.

Hang on, is it really that deep though? I mean, a barista fixing your grind size is cool and all, but changing your whole morning routine? That feels like a lot for a cup of coffee. Maybe it's just me but I don't think a pour over tweak should be this life changing event. Like, are you really gonna reorganize your whole morning now just to taste some fruit notes? idk, seems like you're giving a coffee shop a little too much credit.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think a pour over tweak should be this life changing event" - I actually used to feel the exact same way. I thought people who got deep into coffee stuff were just being dramatic. But then last month I switched to a medium grind on my light roast ethiopian beans and wow, the difference was wild. I started waking up 15 minutes earlier just to hand grind and really focus on the pour, and now it's this little calm ritual before the chaos of the day. So yeah, idk, sometimes a simple tweak just hits different.
