Found out the famous Pillars of Creation photo is actually a color composite, and I'm rethinking every space wallpaper I've used
Last month I was reading the Hubble site and stumbled on a note that the 1995 Pillars of Creation shot isn't what your eyes would see. It turns out they mapped sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen to red, green, and blue, which are not the real colors at all. I always thought those green and orange clouds were straight from the telescope. Since then I've been going back through my saved wallpapers and checking the captions on the NASA gallery. Now I can't look at a pretty nebula pic without hunting for the filter list. How do you all handle this when you post your own shots, do you label them as false color or just leave it?
