I always thought my telescope was the problem, but it was my camera settings

For two years, I blamed my Celestron 8SE for my blurry photos of the Orion Nebula. Then a guy at the star party in Flagstaff asked to see my camera's live view and pointed out I had the ISO cranked to 12800 the whole time. I dropped it to 1600 and took a single 30-second shot that was clearer than all my old stacked images. How many other simple fixes are we missing because we blame the gear first?

Wait, you had it at 12800 for two whole years? That's honestly kind of amazing it worked at all.

Honestly, it was a miracle. The whole thing was held together by duct tape and hope. I just kept waiting for it to fully die so I had an excuse to upgrade. It finally gave up last month, and honestly, the relief was real. Never doing that again.

That's some serious dedication right there.
