My telescope tripod gave up during a meteor shower up at Mount Pinos last weekend

I was out at the Mount Pinos parking lot with my 8-inch Dobsonian, all excited for the Perseids, when my cheap tripod just buckled and sent the whole rig crashing into gravel. The eyepiece cracked and I spent the next hour fumbling with duct tape and a headlamp trying to fix it in the dark. Has anyone else had their equipment fall apart right when the sky finally clears?

Yeah that sucks. But honestly @lucasjackson I used to think cheap gear was fine until my mount collapsed mid-Geminids and I realized saving 50 bucks cost me the whole night.

Oh come on. It's just a scratched eyepiece and some duct tape, not exactly a disaster. You probably lost like 30 minutes tops.
