Shoutout to the guy at the star party who showed me how to stack images
I always thought stacking 50 photos of the Orion Nebula was just extra work for a tiny gain, but seeing the detail pop on his laptop screen after using DeepSkyStacker last weekend completely changed my mind.

Wow, that moment when the noise just melts away is pure magic!

Glad you saw the light on stacking, it's a game changer. Just a small thing though, you don't really stack 50 photos of the Orion Nebula itself, you're stacking 50 separate long exposure shots of it to fight the camera's noise. The software lines them all up and averages out the random grain, letting the real signal from the nebula shine through. That's why the detail seems to just appear out of nowhere. It's less about the number of pictures and more about the total light you collect.
