That night at Cherry Springs State Park where my camera battery died after 10 minutes in 28 degree weather
I drove 3 hours to Cherry Springs last February for the dark sky, set up my tripod, and my DSLR battery just gave out after 10 minutes in the cold. Had to sit there with just my eyes for 2 hours watching the Milky Way - actually kind of peaceful but I missed getting any photos. Has anyone else had their gear fail on them during a prime viewing night?

oh man, that exact same thing happened to me but with a different twist. i was out in the poconos trying to get some shots of the perseids, and my camera battery died after maybe 15 minutes. so i just sat there shivering, and then i realized i forgot my phone too. no music, no nothing. just me and the stars. ended up counting satellites for like an hour because i had nothing else to do lol. honestly though, sitting in the dark with no gear is kinda nice sometimes, makes you notice how loud the silence is.

You counted satellites for an hour? For real? That's honestly kind of impressive, I would've lost my mind after like 10 minutes of that lol.
