Tried a cheap filter for my phone camera to shoot the moon

I mean, it was this little plastic thing I got online for like eight bucks, supposed to cut light pollution. Last night I finally stuck it on and pointed it at the full moon from my apartment balcony. The picture came out way darker and weirder than I expected, but when I messed with the brightness on my phone, I could actually see some crater details I never caught before. Has anyone else had a weirdly good result from a totally janky piece of gear?

Was it just the filter or your editing skills?

Totally! My old lens cap trick did that once.

Yeah, my buddy had a similar thing with a busted old telescope. He got a photo of Jupiter's bands that still blows my mind, kind of like what carter.gavin said about the lens cap. Sometimes the janky stuff just works in a weird way.
