Why I stopped trying to shoot the Milky Way with a cheap tripod
Used to think a $30 tripod was fine for astrophotography. Took my camera out to this dark spot near Lake Tahoe last summer. Woke up to a blurry mess because the wind shook it at 20 seconds exposure. Switched to a used Manfrotto carbon fiber one after that. Anyone else have trouble finding a tripod that actually holds still for long exposures?

That blurry mess happened to me too, a rock solid tripod is worth the money.

Stick with what works, right? I mean, it's like that old saying about buying cheap boots - you either spend the money once on something good or keep replacing the cheap ones forever. Same goes for tripods, you just end up paying for it either way.
