Choosing between the Beltline and Piedmont Park for a big family picnic was a nightmare

We had 15 people coming in from out of town and I had to pick one spot. The Beltline seemed fun for walking, but finding a big enough grassy area for blankets and coolers near Krog Street was impossible. I went with Piedmont Park near the 12th Street entrance, but it was so packed we ended up squeezed next to a loud soccer game. Has anyone found a good, less crowded spot for a group that size on a Saturday?

Oh man, that sounds like a classic Atlanta weekend puzzle! Trying to find a quiet patch of grass for a big group is like trying to find a parking spot at the mall in December. You basically have to get there at sunrise or just accept that you'll be picnicking to the sweet sounds of ultimate frisbee arguments.

Actually, the ultimate frisbee arguments are part of the fun. That background noise gives the picnic some energy and life. Way better than sitting in a dead silent, empty park.

Sunrise is way too early for a picnic, Oscar743. I saw a group at Piedmont Park last Saturday that got there at 7 AM just to claim a spot. That's a level of commitment I will never understand.
