Found out my old neighborhood grocery store has been gone for over a decade
Was looking up something about Grant Park on Google Maps last night and noticed the old Highland Grocery spot is now a bank. I swear it was still there a few years ago but turns out it closed in 2012, which is wild to me. Anybody else ever get caught off guard by how much Atlanta changes while you aren't paying attention?

16 years is a long time in this city, not everyone wants to hold onto a corner store that probably couldn't compete with the Publix a mile down the road. Maybe it's better that a bank went in that spot, since it actually serves the community by providing a place for people to handle their money instead of just buying overpriced milk and bread. Atlanta's growth means old places have to make way for things people actually need now.

My uncle once opened a laundromat right next to a car wash, never figured out why.

Some laundromats team up with car washes because people will drop off their laundry, wait in their car for the wash, and then swap. It's a time saver if you think about it, you can knock out two chores at once instead of sitting around doing nothing. Your uncle probably saw that people in the area were driving around with dirty cars and dirty clothes, so he figured he'd catch them on both ends. Plus, the water bill probably wasn't terrible since they share some of the plumbing setup.
