Guy at the Ponce City Market coffee counter gave me the best advice on biking to work

Last Tuesday morning I was struggling with my bike lock outside Dancing Goats and this older dude just walked over and showed me a trick to wrap my chain around the frame instead of just the wheel. He said he'd seen three bikes get stripped that way near the BeltLine last summer. Anyone else gotten random street smarts from a stranger in Atlanta that actually saved you money or hassle?

Yeah I read somewhere that tire pressure is the number one thing people mess up on bikes, makes a huge difference on those Atlanta hills. That guy under the bridge probably saved you a long miserable walk.

The real pro tip nobody talks about isn't bike locks or routes, it's checking the air pressure in your tires before you leave the house. That old guy who helped you with the chain lock probably knows it too. Most people run their tires way too soft and wonder why they're dying on hills or getting flats every month. I learned this the hard way when a homeless guy under the bankhead bridge waved me down and pointed out my back tire was nearly flat. Saved me from walking three miles that day. A simple squeeze test takes five seconds and can save you from being stranded or ruining a rim. That's the kind of street smarts that actually keeps you moving in this city.
